Deborah Jane Pearson (Petals and Poppets Childminding)
Hi and welcome. My name is Deborah and I have been a Registered Childminder in Great Houghton since 2006. I offer a family environment where a child can feel safe, nurtured and secure - a real home away from home.
I care for children from birth to 12 years. We love our Petals and Poppets to learn in a caring and stimulating home environment, where they also have the opportunity to attend local playgroups, indoor play areas and enjoy trips to parks and outdoor play areas as part of their learning experience. Every adventure requires a first step.
I have a large conservatory which is our playroom, and backs onto a safe enclosed garden space where the children can play on, and with, the equipment, (swings, seesaw, climbing frame, slides, basketball, swing ball and football to name but a few), or just run around and generally have fun. For older children I have a dining and activity room where children can enjoy arts, board games and have limited access to Netflix and YouTube (with parental controls of course).
I hold up to date training certificates for Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding Designated Lead in Early Years, Food Hygiene and I have an NVQ Level 3 in Children's Learning and Development.
From January 2021 I will have Emma working alongside me as my Assistant, whilst she is also training to because a fully qualified Registered Childminder in her own right. This is very exciting as it means that we can now offer more childcare spaces to accommodate local demand.
My last Ofsted inspection in 2018 was graded Good. This means that I can offer funded 15 hour placements for qualifying 2 year olds, alongside 3 and 4 year old funded places for up to 30 hours per week. I also offer private day care for Early Years children during weekdays.
I provide before and after school sessions with drop offs and pick ups from Sandhill Primary School, and provide care during school holidays.

- How do we offer support to children or young people with a special educational need or disability?
I work in partnership with parents. I am aware of all children's individual needs. I will apply for grants for additional resources/ personel if needed
I welcome feedback from parents, children, the Local Authority and Ofsted. Parents comments are part of my self evaluation process and I regularly liaise with parents.
- What specialist training, experience and expertise do we have relevant to children with special educational needs and disabilities?
I keep up to date with the latest training - Safeguarding, SEN, Autism, ADHD and Makaton, and undertake further training when appropriate and required.
I work closely with children and families, as well as schools, nurseries and other appropriate agencies (for example, Speech and Language, Physiotherapy) to ensure that support is given and needs are met.
- How accessible is our setting?
Not wheelchair accessible but I make every effort to adapt to individual needs.
