Barnsley Libraries

Barnsley Libraries provide a wide range of services for children, young people and families in our branches across the borough.

For details of library locations and opening times, please see the “Find a Library” section of the council website.

Children can join the library from birth (under 16s will need a guarantor to sign for them.)

There are no overdue fines for items borrowed on children’s tickets and children’s requests are also free of charge.

All of our libraries have:

·         Books for children, from board books for babies through to graphic novels, teenage fiction and information books. We also have children's titles available to download from our eBooks and eAudio website.

·         Parents’ Collection: a range of books about parenting, from pregnancy through to child health and education.

·         Fiction, non-fiction and reference books for adults

Digital Resources including e-books, e-audio, digital magazines and online reference materials

 ·         Free Internet access

Many of our libraries have regular story and rhyme times and other activities for children and young people, including Lego clubs as well as adults’ readers’ groups and classes.

Each summer children can take part in the Summer Reading Challenge.  Pre-school children can sign up for Bear's Reading Adventure and earn rewards each time they use the library.
