The Penistone History and Archive Group
The Penistone History Archive formed in 1985 when Penistone Town Council was left a large collection of items following the death of local historian Neville Roebuck.
The collection included newspapers, photographs and memorabilia related to the history of Penistone and the surrounding area.
The group meets on Wednesdays at 2pm has been working ever since to organise the collections and make them available to promote local history and culture. A twice yearly journal is produced which is full of stories from the archives.
The group have also published an account of the local workhouse and are currently working on another publication about the local jail.
