Our recent OFSTED inspection commented ' Superb care and learning for children who have special educational needs helps them to make excellent progress from their starting points'. 'Staff are highly proactive in co-ordinating multi-agency services' and 'They provide exceptional support for parents to continue their children's learning at home.'

Schools Extended Local Offer Response

How do we offer support to children or young people with a special educational need or disability?

All children are observed and assessed against the Early Years Foundation Stage on entry.If any child is not developing as expected this would be detected within the first few weeks that the child has been with us and we would discuss the findings with the childs parents.If necessary and with the permission of parents we would refer the child to the relevant outside services.With the support from specialist outside services we would then support and plan for the child according to their needs.

If any parents are concerned about a childs health or development we would support the child and family, where necessary seek the relevant support needed.

Each child has their own dedicated key worker person that works closely with the child and family.

All staff receive regular training and keep up to date with any changes.

We have an open door policy and parents/carers are welcome to stay.

Inclusive environment following policies and procedures.

We ask all parents/carers to complete an 'all about me'.This information document informs staff about each individual child for example, likes and dislikes and individual care needs.We then use this information to inform weekly planning and it gives the child's key person a starting point in regards to their development.By knowing what each child enjoys at home helps the settling in process for example,we can set out a childs favourite toy or we are aware that a child does not like loud noises.

Daily communication between parents and staff at drop off and pick up.

Daily diaries are used to record what each child has enjoyed doing at nursery,including records of meals, sleeps and toileting for example.

All staff observe and record childrens development and each childs next steps are shared with parents.

Termly development reports.

Parents evenings.

Comments from our recent OFSTED inspection

'A well-established key person system helps children to form strong bonds with staff.Practitioners offer high levels of support for childrens transitions,both within the setting and to prepare them for the move to school.'

Each child has 2 settling in sessions before their start date,more can be added if needed.All staff use the infomation from the 'all about me' to help plan for each child's settling in sessions and first days.

Children moving on from us are visited by their next carer/setting and all infomation is passed across to them to ensure the transition goes as smoothly as possible.

Each child is fully assessed and plans are put in to place with the permission and help from parents.If we felt the child needed more specialist support we would refer the child to the relevant services.

How accessible is our setting?
  • All children's individual needs are assessed  before we plan any outing out of the setting.We will undertake an individual risk assessment on each child with SEN.All outings are well planned for and a risk assessment is completed.
