Val Hawcroft
My home is close to local schools, nurseries and town centre. The children I care for can move freely around the ground floor rooms which is a through lounge kitchen and can use the bathroom facilities which are located on the first floor. They can access the rear area of the property which is fully decked for outdoor play.
I work between 8.00 - 18.00 normally, Monday to Friday but I do work the occasional weekend or out of hours for emergency cover.

Local Offer
- Description
I have a step to the front and rear doors and I do not have a downstairs toilet. However I do care for children with special educational needs and disabilties and offer short breaks.
Schools Extended Local Offer Response
- How do we offer support to children or young people with a special educational need or disability?
I use the EYFS and this can help me to see any issues or difficulties that may need extra consideration.
I provide a variety of activities and experiences that meet the individual needs of the children as I use their interests to plan our days.
I feel as a childminder that the views of the children and the parents matter to me a great deal. I work with the parents so that their children's individual needs are met and their confidence grows to their full potential.
I speak to my parents on a daily basis, I feel that we have a positive relationship where we both feel we could discuss matters whether positive or negative ones.
I work with schools to ensure that children have a smooth transition and feel comfortable in joining their new place of education wherever possible.
Verbal face to face, text message, journal.
- What specialist training, experience and expertise do we have relevant to children with special educational needs and disabilities?
I have experience with a variety of needs including diabetes, autism and dispraxia.
Makaton, Autism, Safeguarding Disabled Children
- How accessible is our setting?
We access the outdoors daily, this includes outings to the Dearne valley and canal way, Pugneys and Newmillerdam as well as Barnsley parks and amenities (Cannon Hall, Library and playgroups).
There is no downstairs toilet but there are some sensory resources and I have access to Treasure Box. There are steps at the front and back.
Working to children's needs and interests ensures that children's needs are met. This may include accessing Treasure Box or funding.
