Local Offer

Description

The pre-school has a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo)

Whether your child has a physical or educational additional need we would allocate them a keyworker who would work closely with them.  Meetings would be put in place with professionals and parents to make sure your child would get the education needed to help them achieve their full potential.

We would access outside professional help for complex needs, enabling us to make sure that your child can be included in activities that are on going in nursery.

Schools Extended Local Offer Response

How do we offer support to children or young people with a special educational need or disability?

Each child is monitored by their keyworker.  The keyworker will work closely with child and parent.  If you are concerned that your child may have special educational needs mention this when you call into nursery for your visit.  The SENCO will then discuss things with you and advise the way forward and then an assessment will be carried out to see if your child will need extra help at all.

Our environment is inclusive.  Each child will have a keyworker.  They will assess your child and if they feel your child may need help in some areas the keyworker will put this help in place. Barnsley specialist services may become involved if necessary to provide your child with the best possible education.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and each child has a keyworker.  The keyworker works closely with their children and monitors how the children work.  Each child will have their own next steps and the keyworker will help this to be achieved.  All staff work with parents and carers also to achieve the learning goals.

Your child will be assessed and observed.  This will be linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage profile and you will be allowed at any time to look at this.  There will also be a learning journal which will have observations and photos in to help you.  At least once a week there will be a diary goes home, with your child, telling   you what your child has achieved in nursery. You will be allowed to comment in the diary and tell us what your child has been doing.

Your child will have a keyworker who will look after your child with all their needs.

We have an open door policy so parents can come and take a look at nursery, ask questions and speak to all staff present.  Children will be monitored and assessed on how they are progressing.  This will be discussed with parents.  When it is time for children to move to school, teachers will pay a visit and speak to the children moving into their class.  All paperwork from nursery will be passed on to the next school.

All professionals will discuss each individual case and decide what support and how much support is needed, this will include discussions with parent/carers
