Cheeky Monkies Out of School Club
*Please note this setting is temporarily closed due to Covid-19*
Cheeky Monkies is a breakfast and after school club run for children between the age of 3 and 11 years of age. We run between the hours of 8 and 9am and 3-15 to 5-45pm Monday to Friday term time only. We are registered for 24 children in total providing we have 3 members of staff working. It is based within High View Primary Learning Centre which is a school and is privately run. Our facilities consist of a main room based in the school community room, which has an adjustable wall that can extend the room to make it bigger by using the space which was once the ICT suite. The community room has an adjacent kitchen with food preparation and storage facilities which are regularly checked by environmental health, our recent grade being a 5. We also use other adjacent areas with in the school, the library, the school hall, staff and childrens toilets and corridors leading to the outside areas, this consists of enclosed and flood lit courts, playing field and back and front playground which have an adventure playground area, gardening facilities and outdoor music area. We also have outside storage space for our equipment too. All our facilities are wheel chair accessible and are suitable for any special educational needs children.
The room is used by other groups as well as ourselves so everything has to be got out at the beginning of a session and put away at the end of a session. Access to our room and areas we use is through the main reception area which has a buzzer for parents and visitors to be let in. We work with the school and have adapted our policies to work along side theirs. We hold regular meetings with the manager of the schools management team to discuss the club and and changes we are hoping to make or need help with. We also work with the parent liason officer, behaviour managers as well as the safeguarding team with in school if we need help dealing with certain issues relating to parents or children who are registered with us.
We have at present one member of staff qualified to level 4 in childcare and education, which is full time. Three members of staff that are at a level 3, two which are part-time and one is on maternity leave at the moment. One member of staff which is working towards a level three who is also part-time these all have first aid training, safeguarding training and food hygiene training as well as a variety of training that they have chosen to attend. We also have two casual staff who are presently awaiting training. We have a minimum of two staff working at any one time and when numbers or needs require it we have three members of staff working. We do not have any problems at present recruiting or retaining staff, the only problem we have is staff having time off for maternity leave but this has been resolved by having a good pool of staff that we can call on. We are not planning on any major reorganising of staff.
All staff members attend regular training, meetings and have regular staff appraisals/ observations where they can discuss training they wish to attend and and any problems they are experiencing or things they wish to discuss. This has all been adjusted in line with our quality improvement programme and because of the observation training we recently attended.
