YMCA Barnsley

YMCA Barnsley are an independent local charity that works for and with children and young people and their families. They deliver a wide range of children’s and youth work, extended services and members activities including table tennis, archery, and radio broadcasting. YMCA Barnsley aims to empower young people by involving them in activities that stimulate, challenge and enable them to realise their potential and participate fully in their communities.

YMCA Barnsley provide a safe and welcoming space and positive activities for children and young people and support them so they can belong, contribute and thrive in their communities. They provide affordable, quality facilities for other charities. YMCA Barnsley use the resources we have available to support those who are homeless and vulnerable. They have been an active part of our community since 1857 and we are keen to ensure a legacy for the future as a valued deliverer of services and facilities.

Sports & Activities

  • Table Tennis
    There has been a long standing Table Tennis section at YMCA Barnsley currently running two specific sessions along with regular play in the match room. Five teams and 18 members compete in the Barnsley Table Tennis League with a team in the Wakefield League. Coaching and play Monday evenings 6.30-9.30 & Friday evenings 5.30-7.30 – For more information contact us.

 

  • Archery
    Providing opportunities for people of all ages to participate in the sport of archery and coaching for archers to develop their skills. The programme is delivered by qualified Archery GB coaches. The club shoots indoors at the YMCA and also has outdoor facilities at Rockingham. We run beginner’s courses to introduce new members. Community & Youth Work

Little Y
Activities for children in a purpose built facility offering arts, crafts, games, free play, baking, sports and activities.

Age group: 5-8 years

Venue: YMCA Barnsley

Sessions: Every Thursday during term time, 5:00-6:00pm

Cost: YMCA membership or 60p per session

Children’s Activities
Activity and youth clubs for children who live in the Central Area of Barnsley. Arts, sports and activities, horticulture, music, gaming, bushcraft, environmental activities & so much more…

Age group: 8-14 years

Venue: YMCA Barnsley & various locations in Dodworth, Central, Kingstone, Stairfoot & Worsbrough

Y Stay In Youth Club
A drop in youth club environment and activities for young people aged between 13 and 19 in a purpose built youth work facility in the Central Area. It is a well equipped youth club with music, gaming, a sports hall and indoor sports like Table tennis and Pool. It is staffed by a friendly team of YMCA youth workers and it has a great coffee bar and tuck shop.

Age group: 13 to 19

Venue: YMCA Barnsley

Sessions: Wednesdays during term time, 6:30-8:30pm

Cost: FREE

Barnsley YMCA - TYI Friday

The TYI Friday sessions (THANK YOU IT'S FRIDAY) take place at YMCA Barnsley on Fridays during term time at the following times:

  • YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 8-11 YEARS - 4:00-6:00pm
  • YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 11-19 YEARS - 6:30-8:30pm 

TYI Friday (THANK YOU IT'S FRIDAY) is part of the Aiming High Short Breaks Provision and provides a range of youth club type activities for participants including personal and social development.  The programme of activities usually includes arts & crafts, sports & games, creative media & music, healthy living, seasonal activities, along with issue based and independent skills projects and opportunities for peer support and volunteering.

Barnsley YMCA Young Volunteers

The Young Volunteers at Barnsley YMCA are involved in a range of activities. These include:

  • Acting as an ambassador at different events
  • Offering peer mentoring
  • Organising their own events
  • Representing the YMCA regionally, nationally and even internationally.
