Kabuki Child Care Ltd.

Kabuki Childcare Centre is ideally located right in the heart of the town centre. We are close to the College, Town Hall and Police Station, set in beautiful grounds, surrounded by trees and open green spaces. We offer childcare from 6 weeks old up to the age of 5 years providing a balanced curriculum that meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and offer music and dance classes on a daily basis lead by our creative practitioner who has a degree in musical theatre.

We offer 2 year funding as well as 3 & 4 year funding, including a stretched offer entitlement for children accessing 30 hours. To find out more details on the options of stretched funding you can telephone the setting to speak to Sarah, our nursery manager.

All of our children take part in group time sessions, where children develop language and communication skills. We follow a toolkit called Welcomm to enable our practitioners to assess a child's current level of speech and language and to customise a range of activities to suit each child's individual needs. We also implement strategies developed by Elklan which our 2-5 room leader is trained within. From the age of 3 we follow Letters and Sounds to build speaking and listening skills and to prepare children for their early reading and writing skills. We also teach the children Makaton sign language and they sign and sing their favourite nursery rhymes.

We have a spacious setting, with two rooms for our 2 - 5 year olds and a fantastic garden and soft play area. We also have a large baby room for the under two's which consists of three separate areas, including a sensory room with their own outdoor space.

Our garden has a huge sandpit that the children can climb into, dig and build with plenty of space for lots of children. We also have a fort with a  built in slide, tepee, mud kitchen, pirate ship, climbing wall, creative shed and other climbing equipment as well as bikes and a swing.

All our staff are well qualified early years practitioners and all hold a valid Paediatric first aid certificate and safeguarding training. We have a practitioner on site that has recognised Qualified Teacher Status and some staff are working towards their Level 5 qualifications. All of our staff also undertake additional training in Nutrition awareness, Health and Safety and Allergens awareness. All staff attend training on a regular basis in order to update their skills and knowledge. We regularly update our Facebook page with photos, events and information about what we have been up to.

We use a system called Iconnect to keep our our parents updated with observations, meals the children have eaten, nappy/toileting checks and sleep checks each day.

Local Offer

Here at Kabuki Childcare Centre we have two well-educated Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinators, Lucy Bird and Molly McShane. Lucy is also our Deputy Manager but is currently on maternity leave, both practitioners work very closely with outside agencies to ensure each child receives the support from other professionals that they may need.

Lucy has managed to secure Interim Inclusion Grants for numerous children in our care, giving them the extra support, they need in setting to help them thrive in their development. We also offer short breaks during school holidays for children that are entitled to it.

Lucy and Molly work very closely with other health professionals to ensure that their knowledge and their ability to offer the best possible support for each individual child is available. All staff in setting have an up to date knowledge of the current SEND documentation and each key person is responsible for ensuring each of their child's needs are met. We also support children on an Early Years Developmental Journal alongside the current EYFS framework to enable children to make small steps and progress within their development. We work very closely with parents/carers to ensure they also receive any support that they may need.

Schools Extended Local Offer Response

How do we offer support to children or young people with a special educational need or disability?

We track the child's progress through observations and assessments on our online tracking system. Each child is allocated a key person who works closely with parents and carers to identify any additional support the child may need. Any child who is identified with special educational needs receives specific help and support from our SENDCO and the Inclusion Team.

Early years staff quickly identify the interests and needs of individual children and provide a range of resources, plan and create an innovative range of stimulating activities. Close contact with parents and carers ensures that home / nursery routines in sleep and feeding are in place to suit the individual child.

Each child is observed throughout the course of the month and the key person ensures that planning is around each individual child's interests, schemas and specific needs.

We have parents evening twice a year to offer you an opportunity to meet with your child's key person and have an in-depth discussion about your child's progress and development. We also complete and on entry report, a 2 year check and an end of year report so you can see what your child has achieved, what their current next steps are and how far they have developed.

Through our online learning journal - Iconnect, parents can access regular updated information, photographs and videos of their child's time at nursery. We hold regular parent / practitioner meetings and informal discussions can be arranged whenever the need arises.

Our team consists of qualified and experienced child care trained staff and qualified teachers. Supporting agencies are involved where and when required.

Throughout a child's time at Kabuki evidence and observations are gathered on the child to ensure children are developing at an appropriate rate, this evidence is collated and entered onto our tracking system in order to support the transition process to a new setting.

Parents/carers, management, our SEN co-ordinators and the nursery owners work alongside the support teams within the authority as well as any outside agencies to devise a support plan that will best meet the needs of the child.

The online journal is used by parents to upload their own photographs and comments from home, which supports the learning journey practitioner complete online. The setting has an open-door policy and parents are very welcome to come in and have a discussion about their child's specific needs.

What specialist training, experience and expertise do we have relevant to children with special educational needs and disabilities?

Music, singing, dance and art sessions are delivered throughout the day to enhance every child's learning experience by a qualified musical theatre practitioner. We have a fully equipped sensory room to stimulate the children's senses and provide a calming environment if required. Our staff use Makaton as a means of communication.

We have two designated SENCO and all staff attend local authority training courses in a variety of subjects to support a wide range of educational needs.

How accessible is our setting?

We have a team of 19 qualified practitioners all of whom undergo regular training to ensure their knowledge is kept up to date so they can ensure that each individual child is receiving the best possible start to their education. The nursery setting has a good strong management team at its core. There are 2 nursery directors whom of which are husband and wife and so the nursery is very family and musically orientated. There is the nursery manager, Sarah, supported by the deputy manager, Lucy, our business development manager, Harry, along with 3 senior members of staff.

All children are taken on outings to the park, the library, Barnsley Civic Theatre and to the Cooper Art Gallery where they attend events and exhibitions. We regularly access events in the local area and have pushchairs available for children who have difficulty in walking long distances.

The nursery setting is very accessible as it is all on one level with ramps to the outdoor areas.

We aim to be fully inclusive and will work with families to ensure the setting has the correct resources to meet the needs of any child that comes to Kabuki, regardless of any special educational needs. Children are supported to achieve the very best outcomes.
