- How do we offer support to children or young people with a special educational need or disability?
We monitor children's development through the Early Year Foundation Stage and assess through learning and development plans. We monitor and assess targets we set and speak regularly with parents about any concerns. Parents can speak with staff daily.
Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) will work alongside parents and appropriate external professionals to gain support for the child. We work together to set smart targets in Individual Education Plans, have regular meetings, ensuring support is in place.
The Early Years Foundation Stage planning will be differentiated to support childrens needs. We also use 'Early Support' to break the Early Years Foundation Stage down into smaller achievable outcomes we can plan for.
We meet in regular Team Around the Child meetings to discuss the child's needs, their progress/concerns etc. We speak daily on arrival/collection also. To support learning, parents are given suggested activities on their learning and development summaries
Children are allocated one to one staff support as needed. Appropriate equipment for children is used as suggested by other professionals. Staff research into childrens individual needs and provide planning and resources to support them
We have a transition process in place for each stage of your childs journey, from starting the setting to moving age groups and then into full time school. This includes working with the parents to decide on the visits needed, the length of these visits and communicating with families regarding how the child is doing and how to create a smooth transition working together.
When moving on to school we invite teachers into nursery where they talk to the child's key person and see them in the nursery environment, our practitioners provide a report and summary of the child's developments and useful information with will be shared with families.
Our SENCO speaks with parents and other professionals involved. Our SENCO has a good relationship with Inclusion who regularly offer their support.
Parents are included in our planning. They are invited to all events. We have suggestion slips available for comments. We include all parents at meetings/open days etc.
- What specialist training, experience and expertise do we have relevant to children with special educational needs and disabilities?
Our setting has 2 SENCO trained staff and 1 Early Help (EHA) assessors. Our SENCO has experience of Team Around the Child/Family (TAC and TAF) meetings and working with children with various needs.
We also have 2 practitioners trained in WellComm.

All outings are inclusive to children with Special Educational Needs. Extra staffing and appropriate transport would be used.
