Child's Play Day Nursery (Penistone) LTD
We are a family run nursery in the heart of the countryside. We promote an ethos of active play and exploration with a huge emphasis on outdoor play.
All of our practitioners are level three or above and we pride ourselves on having four Early Years Teachers who work hands on challenging and extending the learning experiences of our children. Our cook produces fresh, healthy and nutritional meals onsite daily from menus designed by our parents and children. We are an inclusive setting and welcome all children and their families. We promote all the Early Years Foundation Stage goals and encourage parental involvement in their child's learning within the setting.

Schools Extended Local Offer Response
- How do we offer support to children or young people with a special educational need or disability?
Initial concerns are brought to the Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCO). All children are tracked on entry and developmental levels are monitored every term. Concerns are brought to supervision meeting and plans put in place with SENCO support. If you have any concerns with your child/ren please talk to your child's key person, a confidential meeting can be arranged to discuss any issues.
Our approach is very child centred and parental invovlement is encouraged as much as is possible. Any special educational needs support that is put in place will always be agreed with parents and include the childs voice were possible. Again with parents permission support from outside agencies with be sort if appropriate.
All activites are differentiated for all children in setting, age/stage appropriate activities follow childrens developmental needs and more importantly their personal interests.
Use of online Development Journals (Early Essence), parents can see all pictures and observations and also upload and make their own comments and contributions to the file. SEN support plans are put into place with parents involvement and a system of assess/plan/do/review is in place to evaluate these plans and progress. All children are tracked each term and children with SEN are tracked every 6 weeks. A formal parents evening is held annually and key workers and SENCo are available to talk to at any time.
Each child is asigned a key worker who is responsible for planning appropriate activities and tracking their children through observation and assessment. Disabled Childrens Access to Childcare (DCATCH) and interim inclusion grant funding are available for any additional support needed, whilst any application for Educational Health and Care plan needs assessment are in process.
TAF meetings and contact with the new setting/ school. We also provide more transition sessions to support individual childrens needs. Initial settling in visits are organised to suit each indivual child with regard to number and length of visits.
Observation and support from SENCO. DCATCH funding used to provide 1:1. Educational health care plan (needs assessment) will determine any future interventions and support to be put in place.
We promote strong parent parnership from the outset. Parent links are embedded in our ehos and vision for the setting. We have a parents champions team made up of parents who wish to be more invovled with our setting, providing feedback on all aspects of our care and education.
- What specialist training, experience and expertise do we have relevant to children with special educational needs and disabilities?
Speech and language therapy, Comminucation interaction team Hearing Impairment team, Occupational health,Physiotherapy.
Any necessary training is sourced for appropriate staff. In house training from SENCO is delivered and any SEND training practitioners attend is always fed back to the whole team.
- How accessible is our setting?
Risk assessments to ensure all activities are inclusive and safe, extra staffing used if needed.
We aim to make reasonable adjustment to the environment to accomodate all children (doorways are quite narrow)
With support from SENCO and parental input plus outside agencies
