What’s on offer at Lundwood family centre?
Lundwood Family Centre is located on Littleworth Lane, Lundwood. We offer a wide range of services for Families and their Children and young people aged 0-19 years, 25 years with a disability.
Our centre is open all year round, closing just for Christmas, Bank holidays and training days. Our centre has a welcoming entrance, consisting of information about what we offer as a centre and our partner agencies, as well as a friendly receptionist to greet you!
We have a spacious main community room where we deliver our groups and services. This room leads to a fantastic outdoor play area, accessible all year round. We also have a small private room available if families want to speak to us in private, or can be used if a mum would like to breastfeed privately.

Baby and Toddler groups:
Virtual Nurture and Natter
For children aged from birth to 5 years, These are our New Virtual sessions. Play is important for children’s development. It supports language development, thinking and problem solving as well as creating exploration, curiosity, imagination and independence.
The sessions are available to families who like to stay home but want to help and enhance their child’s learning and development. We will be there to support with ideas for play as well as additional support to any families wanting advice and support in Early Help and our service.
Explore and Nature
This is our new outdoor group for 0—5 years. This session creates opportunities for children to learn through play, wonder, awe and develop their own imagination in the outdoors. This includes a healthy snack time as well as song time.
For your Baby
As you baby grows they are learning to use muscles for the first time. Baby yoga promotes the use and strengthening of those muscles and helps to develop their physical development. This group is aimed at babies who are not crawling and is delivered over 4 weeks.
Baby massage encourages and enhances the bond between you and your baby and creates special one to one time. It can also help babies who suffer from tummy troubles. This group is for babies from 6 weeks old and is delivered over 4/5 weeks.
Baby Swim session
The Barnsley Metrodome’s experienced and fully qualified Swim teacher will help your child build up water confidence and basic swimming strokes as well as helping you as parents gain confidence and enable you to learn how to hold your child in water. The sessions are for babies 6 weeks to 18months.
At our centre the Health visiting team run a Baby clinic bookable on the 01226 774411 number in your red book. These appointments are not done through the centre.
Having a Baby
This is a course our Family Support Worker deliver and includes: Parental relationships, Healthy lifestyle choices / emotional health and well-being/Healthy Start, Active birth, Breastfeeding, Baby Cares /understanding baby cues, Attachment and bonding, Communication and language development including coping with crying and the developing child –brain and emotional development. The course is in 2 blocks and is for 4 weeks. To book a place on this course you can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
This session is for families with babies that are coming up to 6 months and are ready to start introducing foods. We will give advice and answer any questions you may have.
Dummy information session
This session is for families to come along to get advice and tips on how to stop your child using a Dummy. You can also bring the Dummy along for us to take away in place of a special gift.
Potty Training information session
This session is for families looking at Potty training their children and would like advice and tips on how to start and how to help their child.
Programmes for Older children
Family Fun Programme
This is aimed at 5-11years. It is a 12 week programme for all the family to enjoy getting active while making memories. The sessions are after school and siblings are welcome.

This is a two hour session of basic emergency first aid, and the session covers, CPR, Recovery position, heart attack, choking and serious bleeding. Our Outreach Workers also currently deliver this in local schools to years 5 and 6.
Throughout the school holidays we provide sessions and trips for all families with children aged 0-19. Please follow our Facebook for more information or check in our groups.
Our sessions are all £1.50 contribution per family, all the contributions go back into the centre to enable us to provide snacks and resources.

Additional information and support
10 week parenting programme that will help you understand your child's behaviour better, why they may have temper tantrums and how your child develops. group.
Sleep tight is a 5 week course for parents’ with children from aged 1 year old and looks at why your child may not be sleeping, the right kind of bedtime environment and helps you put good bedtime routines in place.
Talking teens gives practical information over 4 weeks to support you to understand and communicate with your teenager, helping your deal with conflict and promote a happier family life.
Early Help and Family Support
We offer Early Help for families as well as one to one support, advice and guidance.
