Schools Extended Local Offer Response

How do we offer support to children or young people with a special educational need or disability?

The setting works using the EYFS and make regular observations to plan for children's learning.  This also helps to identify any areas that may need more attention.

We begin by having a discussion with you, the parents to identify areas of interest and things that children can do.  We will attend to their personal needs and provide for their learning and development.  This will inform us of how to plan for your child's needs in the future and support us to support them.

The EYFS is used in such a way that means the childs current learning and development in used and not their age, to best plan for their needs.

We complete a leanring journey which is shared with parents regularly (these can be accessed at any time) and we have daily conversations with parents to ensure that we (parents and setting) are up to date.

We take the whole overall child into account at all times.  If a child is upset, we ensure that their emotional well being comes first.

Working with the EYFS, we track progress and pass this informaiton on to the next setting.  We always ensure that children that are moving to a school in the next term and where a current child attends (is being picked up or dropped off) these opportunities are taken to discuss moving up and to introduce the environment to them.

Using the EYFS we ideintify current learning and development level and this leads us to identify support and what type may be needed.

Daily communication and ongoing assessments are used to ensure that we all stay up to date in the best interests of the child.  If you have any suggestions on how to ensure you can stay up to date, please let us know.

What specialist training, experience and expertise do we have relevant to children with special educational needs and disabilities?

We work with various specialist services to meet the needs of children.  This includes speech and language therapists, the inclusion services within the local authrity and health visitors etc.

I have attended SENCO trinaing and Makaton

How accessible is our setting?

We access the outdoor area daily as well as going to the local park.  We have visited farms, zoos and local activities but these are usually at extra cost.

We have a downstairs toilet but unfortunately there is a step to the front and back doors.  However, this wouldn't necessarily be a barrier so please call to discuss it if there are further questions.

All children have access to the activities and resources in setting.  If there is additional fiunding identified for a specific child, we would discuss this with other agencies involved and ensure that the right resources are put into place in the right way to support these specific needs.
