- How do we offer support to children or young people with a special educational need or disability?
When a child needs some extra transition support, we contact the school/setting that the child is moving to and discuss their needs. A meeting is set up to discuss the childs needs in more detail and if necessary, we ensure that there are visits to the setting and the teacher/practitioner can visit our setting too.
Wonderland is an inclusive environment, for children who require one to one care we will offer this and undertake any training which will increase the practitioners knowledge with regards to the child's needs. Parents are welcome to stay with their child until they feel comfortable leaving them.
We identify children's needs, likes and interests and use this information to plan for the child ensuring that the curricuum meets their needs.
We assess children's current learning and development on an on-going basis. Children with more specific or significant needs are tracked with the Early Support Developmental Journal and we ensure that parents and carers are fully involved in this whether or not they need additional support.
The support your child needs wil be tailored for them and their family.
As with all children their needs for transition are assessed and where a child needs more significant and detailed transition, these needs are met wherever possible.
Parents evenings are held twice per year. Parents are asked if they would like to join a group of other parents to review new/existing nursery policies. Newsletters are sent out monthly and parent questionnaires are sent out annually. Each term parents are also asked what interests their child has at home and if there is any areas of development they would like us to work on. We also have a parents suggestion tree.
- What specialist training, experience and expertise do we have relevant to children with special educational needs and disabilities?
We work with any services/agencies that a child needs, through strong partnership working with them and parents.
Autism Awareness
Epilepsy Training
Wellcomm
ELKLAN training
ELKLAN level 3 supporting verbal pupils with autism spectrum disorder
Input from agencies involved with individual children
- How accessible is our setting?
The setting as a whole has various trips out, local walks, visits to local ammenitites i.e. the library etc.
Risk assessments are carried out for all trips and individuals needs assessed and control measures put into place wherever possible.
The setting is all on one level so it is wheelchair accessible, we have a dark tent with sensory equipment
