How do we offer support to children or young people with a special educational need or disability?

I use the EYFS framework to  assess development and plan next steps. Any cause for concern is raised with parents and I support them in seeking help from their health visitor or GP.

I work alongside parents and other professionals undertaking training when necessary to meet a childs specific needs.

Children's individual needs are met through observing, assessing and planning. Next steps are identified and activities are planned to support children in achieving these.

I use an online system to share information with parents. Progress trackers, daily diaries, medical and accident records are available for parents to view and contribute to 24/7. All pre-school children recieve a report once a term with a handover report completed once they start full time school.

Children are observed and assessed continually with a report completed termly.

I work in partnership with parents and carers to meet the needs of the children I care for. I work together with parents to make sure that the care of their child is consistent.

Though observation, assessment and working with parent and other professionals.

All children and adults are treated with equal concern and are made to feel welcome. Parents are provided with a copy of all policies and procedures, which detail how the setting is run. I keep parents regularly informed about daily routines and childcare practices and share information about children with parents verbally, though daily diaries, emails and development records. I informally share information when children are collected or dropped off.
As a child grows and develops, issues crop up that are very important for us to discuss in order for us to work together. Parents wishes are incorporated into my care routine for a child. These could include weaning, potting training, managing behaviour, starting (pre-)school etc.

What specialist training, experience and expertise do we have relevant to children with special educational needs and disabilities?

I have experience in working with autistic children as well as children with physical disabiities.

How accessible is our setting?

Children are encouraged to participate in all activities whatever their ability. Outings and activities are risk assessed and have parental permission.

The setting is accessible by wheelchair.

Children are assessed to ensure their needs are being met and to identify any additional resources that may be required.
