Julie Skiffington (Childminder)

I have been a childminder for about 7 years and have always been committed to professional development. I am qualified to NVQ level 3 in childcare. As well as a specialist level 3 in the Early Years Foundation Stage. I have undertaken several course, most recently the level 3 Forest Schools, enabling me to promote outdoor education and learning for your children. I am a mum of 3 children aged between ten and 15, my oldest having traits of Aspergers.

How do we offer support to children or young people with a special educational need or disability?

This will be down to me and my observations trying new ways to help develop.  If I have got any concerns I would speak to the parents and then refer on to other agencies (for example doctor etc).  Good communication and sharing of progress.

Adapting activities, being patient and supportive and working with parents and other professionals helping to meet the child's individual needs.

Following the relevant guidance and adapting activities to suit each child's learning styles.

Learning journals, sharing of information (confidentiality kept at all times) with parents and all included, sharing strategies
