Short Breaks for 0-5 years

There are a number of places where Children who are between 0 and 5 usually access their short break

  • day nurseries
  • childminders
  • family centres. (term time only)

(If your child is already in a setting who can offer the short break then please include this in your application.)

Sometimes it might not be possible to get your chosen setting due to staffing issues and the number of children the setting can take.

(If your child needs 1-2-1 support then this will be arranged with the setting. Please include this information in your application.)

Settings will have a SENCO and staff will receive any training required.

If you do not know where you would like your child to attend and would like more information you can visit  Local Offer - Early Years and Childcare or call the Families Information Service on 0800 0345 340

The short break offer is dependent on the child and family’s individual circumstances. The maximum amount could be:

UP TO 2 hours per week in term time and 5 hours per week in school holidays

OR

UP TO 5 hours per week in term time and 10 hours per week in school holidays.

To get the higher level the child must have an Early Help Assessment or an Education, Health and Care Plan in place.

If a family requires more than the higher level tsupport a social work assessment is needed.

If a family get  a short break, they should arrange the times and dates the child will attend with the setting.

Payment will be sent direct to the setting by the Short Breaks Business Support Team.

You can find out more information about short breaks on the Local Offer website
