Short Breaks for 0-5 years

Children 0 to 5 can access their short break in an early years setting.  This can be a day nursery, childminder or family centre.  Please note that family centres are term time only.

If your child is already in a setting and they have availability to offer the short break then please include this in your application.

Please note it is not always possible for your child to attend your preferred setting due to staffing and capacity.

If you do not know where you would like your child to attend and would like more information you can visit  Local Offer - Early Years and Childcare or call the Families Information Service on 0800 0345 340

Settings will have a SENCO and staff will receive any training required.

If your child needs 1-2-1 support then this will be arranged with the setting. You must include this information in your application.

Short Breaks within an early years setting are usually:

Tier One – UP TO 2 hours per week in term time and 5 hours per week in school holidays

Tier Two – UP TO 5 hours per week in term time and 10 hours per week in school holidays.  To access tier two the child must have an Early Help Assessment or an Education, Health and Care Plan in place.

The hours above are a guideline and the maximum allocation a child could receive at each tier, the actual amount of hours allocated is dependent on the child and family’s individual circumstances.

If a family requires more than the tier two level of support a full social work assessment is needed.

It is the responsibility of the family and the setting to arrange the times and dates the child will attend.  Payment will be sent direct to the setting by the Short Breaks Business Support Team.
