Georgina Rayner (Small Wonders Childminding)

Hi, my name is Gina working within Mapplewell. I have recently been rated as "Good" by Ofsted. I became registered as a childminder in 2015 and provide a safe and stimulating environment within my family home. I live with my husband and our 3 children ages 26, 17 and 15 and our family pet Roxy.
 I am very passionate about ensuring that all children have the opportunity to have the best possible outcomes. All children deserve the best opportunities at an early age, I offer 2 year funding and 3/4 year funding also.

I am an all inclusive setting but unfortunately there are steps to my property however this maybe overcome and individual circumstances would always be considered. There is a downstairs toilet and I have a large car for transportation.

I have my level 3 in childcare and currently studying at university on support work for children and families. I take the children in my care on various outings to soft play areas, playgroups, local woods and parks to ensure that the children all have the same opportunities. I work alongside parents to ensure that their childs needs are met and to share information of their developments through daily diaries and learning journeys. How do we offer support to children or young people with a special educational need or disability?

I carry out regular observations and assesments and put the information on trackers. By using the trackers and making use of my SENCO training, I can identify any gaps in a childs development. 

All my information is shared with parents as I have a close working partnership with all my parents.

I ensure that I identify any specific gaps in my knowledge and experience and attend the necessary training or carry out specific research, to address this. 

I always work closely with other professionals to ensure that any changes to the setting, activities or personal needs of the child are met in the best way possible.

I will adapt activities to ensure that all the children have the  opportunities to access activities and experiences in the way they need to which will enhance their learning.  

I work closely in partnership with other schools and settings and share information with parents consent.

Through constant communication both verbally and written, we will be able to make sure that both you (the parents) and I are fully aware of your child's next steps for learning.  We will then discuss the best way to support them in moving forward both at home and in setting.

I offer a safe and stimulating environment within a home from home setting and will ensure the childs needs are met by working closely with parents.

I use the Early Years Foundation Stage as the curriculum to follow for those under 5 years of age and this ensures that I can track, address and plan for the overall learning and development of children.  This includes children's personal development and well-being. 

I follow guidance and legislation and ensure that any concerns from parents are listened to and acted upon appropriately.

I always consider transition and individual needs are considered.  I have a duty to pass on information to the next setting to ensure a smooth transition but in addition to this, I may be able to provide visits and/or activities to sooth the transition for some children (depending on the school/setting they are to go to, the days needed and other commitments).  I will aways consider the child's emotional needs when transitions are due, whatever their own circumstances and needs are.

With all children, regardless of specific or individual needs, I will observe and evaluate their current stage of learning and development which will enable me to identify any areas that may need extra support or identify specific difficulties/gaps in learning.  With this information I can identify what the childs next steps are and how I can help them achieve these next steps.  This may include additional resources or adjutments as necessary.

I always speak to parents on drop off and pickups as well as sharing information through the childs learning journeys and the daily diaries. Parents can access me by phone or email at any reasonable time and my door is always open.

What specialist training, experience and expertise do we have relevant to children with special educational needs and disabilities?

I attend various training courses to enhance my professional development is appropriate to my setting.  This includes SENCO training for Childminders.  I have worked with the Inclusion Team (Barnsley Education Specialist Support Team / BESST) within the local authority and the Speech and Language team.

How accessible is our setting?

All children that attend the setting are included in activities and outings and adaptations considered.  

I have a downsatirs toilet and wash area.  There are steps to the front door but only one step to the back and this may be overcome as I have a double door entry to the back and a large sliding door between the conservatory and the interior of the house. 

If children receive additional funding, there will be a plan to ensure that the funding is spent in the best way possible i.e. if a child is eiligible for pupil premium, to improve thier learning and development in the area they need it most.
